COSTA BRAVA WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

Today to lovely Spain for some Castel D’Emporda wedding photography.

Spain is one of those places I – for no good reason – tend to think I’ve never been to.

I casually disregard those trips to Formentera and to the Ibizan countryside with its resinous pine forests and softly sanded beaches with oh-so-blue seas.

I forget that long trip along the north coast back in the 90’s –  voyage of great speed and peril, of an urgent midnight drive down forgotten mountainsides, passing rockslides and JCBs on their backs in a silent gloom.

And then there’s the frankly sublime Seville with her tapas and architecture and wines and parakeets that fly – irrationally incongruously – screeching overhead.

So I really can’t say I’ve never been to Spain. I suppose, it’s more that I’ve never felt like I’ve been immersed into something quintessentially Spanish which brings us rather neatly to Castel D’Emporda.

Like a discarded flower, she juts above the Catalan plains. Built in the thirteenth century, all manner of life has passed through her halls and in front of her doors. Like a grand dame, she wears her years very well.

There are olive groves and streets that wind gently down the hill.

A old fig tree that throws down small dark leathery fruits with soft jammy interiors.

A beautiful seventeenth century chapel with walls of Madonna blue, chased with clouds.

Palm trees and pillows of herbs, dozy bees that bumble from flower to flower.

And in among all of this there’s love. A meeting of hearts and souls in a simple ceremony between stands of ancient olives.
